In terms of kinky language, WAP hits the nail on the head. If ya catch my meaning. I mean, obviously, two Black women rapping about hot, wet sex was gonna catch some buzz in the mainstream media. Even if rap is notorious for spitting about sex and just filled with innuendos, there’s something very opposing about the female standpoint of WAP. As Jennifer Higgie puts it, “the feminine signifies a force in society which opposes it,” and, in this case, sex isn’t even described in the stereotypical feminine way (e.g. soft or intimate), but in a more progressive view: for fun, for pleasure.
Initially, I started listening to the song ironically, since the TikTok dance craze, but now no lies here, I fucking love it. For starters, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are absolute rap powerhouses, and they just rap with so much confidence, finesse, and power! Secondly, it’s a danceable anthem, no cap. The heavy beats are so good—which are linear to dropping it low, if ya catch my meaning. Thirdly, the actual presence and lyrics of the song are just fun. The way that they use everyday language, but also ‘sex-slang’ has a kink to it. My favourite line has to be “I want you to park that big Mack truck right in this little garage.” Big lols, fucking genius. Though, in terms of musical-sexual-awakening, I still have a strong inclination to ctrl by SZA, but for rap singles I would definitely say it is an absolute bop.
