Opinion: Nintendo Switch 2 gives with one hand and takes with the other

If the Switch is so good then why isn't there a Switch 2 huh? Oh wait...

Opinion: Nintendo Switch 2 gives with one hand and takes with the other
Nintendo Switch 2

We're gamers, right? I mean UOA has the biggest E-Sports Arena of any tertiary provider on planet earth apparently. So how did we all feel about yesterday's Nintendo Direct where the three harbingers of doom for our bank accounts (aside from our coalition government leaders ofc) dropped this $800 bombshell?

Yes, it's cheaper than a Steam Deck. Yes, it's cheaper than a PS5 (and the Xbox Series X). But is it really?

Yeah, Nintendo FINALLY added Game Chat to Nintendo Switch Online, finally adding a feature the original Xbox had. But you'll have to pay to use it, and by the looks of it you can only form a party with 3 other people? I don't think Discord will be going out of business any time soon, that's all I can say.

Game Chat Multi-Screen Gameplay Footage from the recently announced Mario Kart World

As a Neurodiverse person with ADHD, this Zoom-like Game Chat screen, while technologically nifty, is an absolute attention destroying nightmare. I will definitely be turning this feature off while playing. And speaking of technologically nifty, it seems camera gimmicks have been resurrected for yet another console generation with the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, retailing at $79.

Oh, wow you can see each other in the game!? Now that's some computer vision wizardry

Do you know how much it would cost to have these awesome Mario Party gaming memories made? Don't worry, I'll run the numbers for you.

Nintendo Switch 2 - $799.95
Nintendo Switch 2 Joy Con 2 Controllers - $139.95 (for that 4-player drifting fun)
Nintendo Switch Camera - $79.95
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack 12 Month Subscription - $69.95
Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $119.95 (say that 10 times fast omg)

So, to play that one game using all the new Nintendo Switch 2 features will actually set you back $1209.75, or about $90 shy of a new PS5 Pro. Which was already a tone-deaf yikes price point.

Oh well thank goodness, at least the Switch 2 is backwards compatible so I don’t need to repurchase my Switch library like I did for the Wii U. But sike, your SD memory cards don’t work with the Switch 2. Oh yeah, we live in the cost of gaming crisis era now. Back in my day, we got pack in titles like Wii Sports. Now we have to PAY to access the tech demo for the Switch 2? What the fuck?!

My reaction to the Switch 2 Direct

However, now is the best time to invest in an original second-hand Nintendo Switch if you haven't already. Supply and Demand baby, it's a buyers' market now. And if you're clamoring for a Switch 2, please don't have to sell your kidneys too by trading in your Switch in at EB Games.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna be playing Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 on a different system, I'm sorry Reggie, please don't sue Craccum.
