Two new appointments have been made in the University’s Senior Leadership Team.
In an update to staff this morning, Vice-Chancellor Dawn Freshwater announced the University would be welcoming Professor Valerie Linton as the inaugural Provost, and Dr Te Kawehau Hoskins as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Māori).
Professor Linton was previously Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences at University of Wollongong, Australia. She will be relieving Professor John Morrow, who delayed his retirement to cover the newly established Provost role in an acting capacity.
The Provost is senior deputy to the Vice-Chancellor, with responsibility for the planning, development and implementation of the University’s strategic academic plan. Deans of Faculties will report directly to the Provost.
Dr Hoskins is an Associate Professor from the University’s own Faculty of Education and Social Work. “She has made an exceptional contribution to the University of Auckland and wider community,” comments Freshwater, citing her role in leading Te Puna Wānanga (School of Māori Education) for the past 5 years.
In the midst of all this, a search for a new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Engagement) continues. In the meanwhile, Dean of the Faculty of Science John Hosking will step into the role.
With the amount of changes being made akin to a football team in added time, Craccum wouldn’t blame its readers for losing track.
