Pati, previously known as Disciple Pati, plays HAU Festival with her exciting, emotional, and cheeky show KA’A. The hour-long show is packed with a range of genres, with notes of R&B, soul, pop, jazz, and rock. Pati’s vocals, both soft and sweet, and loud and raw, are stunning throughout and the end comes much too quickly.
Pati also plays with an interesting formula, weaving the show together thematically, each song punctuated by short videos on a screen to the right of stage. It’s a format that draws you in a little closer, and explores the meaning of each track more deeply than a mere warm up speech. While Pati debuts her own new singles, she also performs a few awesome covers; both Beyoncé’s ‘FLAWLESS’ and Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’ make the setlist, though Pati makes them entirely her own (Siva Samoa is performed over Queen Bey’s track).
The show is an enticing exploration of conflict in various personal arenas, with each song hitting different emotional beats for each. It’s an exciting show of more to come from Pati.
Pati performs her show KA’A at Basement Theatre until the 12 August.
