Playing at the NZ International Comedy Festival 2021
The 2021 Billy T Award nominee brings us an hour of eye-opening stand-up in Look! I’m blind, playing at Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen in the NZ International Comedy Festival.
Growing up with no vision in one eye and 20% vision in the other, Josh Davies finds comedy gold in his own experiences. From bullying his sister for not having the same genetic disorder as him and his brother, to realising why deaf people have it pretty good, to counselling kids at a blind camp, Davies reveals the awkward, annoying, and funny parts of living with a disability day-to-day.
There’s no doubt Davies is whip-sharp, with a self-aware and distinctly millennial/Gen Z humour (he remembers watching Spy Kids 3-D with one poorly functioning eyeball). Some of the biggest laughs of the night came from his retorts to a couple of hecklers in the audience. However, Josh’s material in the middle of the show slightly falters. There’s a tricky line between building a set around one main topic, and becoming too repetitive.
Despite that, Look! I’m Blind is absolutely worth seeing. Grab your tickets and keep your eyes peeled.
“Josh Davies is one to watch.”
