Auckland University Students’ Association (AUSA) has released the provisional nominations for their Executive positions last week.
Five candidates are running for the position of President, making it the first time the position will be contested in five years. Anamika Harirajh, Peter Loma Malifa, Salim Alzubaidi, Arsh Garcha and Daniel V Barraclough will be campaigning for the presidency.
Over 60 candidates have been nominated for the 12 existing and proposed Executive positions. However, if a proposal to change AUSA’s constitution is passed, the positions of Campaigns Officer, Satellite Campus Representative and Design Officer will be disestablished, and the Postgraduate Students’ Officer position will be established, making the Executive to a team of nine.
Notably, 15 candidates are running for the position of International Students’ Officer, making it the most highly contested position in the election this year.
Campaigning opened last Monday, and will be taking place online and in-person, provided that Auckland’s COVID-19 Alert Level is lowered.
Voting will begin on the 31st of August and close on the 4th of September. Students will be able to vote online through the university’s Engage platform. The AUSA will provide further instructions regarding voting on their social media pages.
