Craccum

WHAT IS CRACCUM?

Craccum is an anagram, standing for ‘Auckland University College Men’s Common Room Circular’. Craccum began life in 1927 as a monster truck rally email newsletter, and since then it’s been stolen, burned, used as toilet paper, and on extremely rare occasions, as a medium for conveying information relevent to the student population.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT CRACCUM?

Craccum has a few interesting characteristics. We have the largest circulation of any student magazine in New Zealand, the students elect the editor(s), and our total editorial freedom means we can say anything we want about the University, the AUSA or anyone in general. This means Craccum can get away with saying naughty words like ‘fuck’ and words that don’t even exist, like ‘flangetopia.’ It also means we can talk about things other media outlets might not want to touch or feel are not worth talking about. We’re living the dream. The underfunded dream.
